Bring your own Device - Session 102
Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) in a Primary School – Dean Finch (Assistant Principal, Harrington Street PS)
theme: LeadIT
Target Audience: School Leaders and Executive
Aim: This year, Harrington St PS will be trialing a BYOD model for students. In 2012, the school had 2 Year 6 classes piloting the idea
in term 4 and is now embarking on a full trial this year. The session will work through the process of making BYOD a reality in a school, including; the
development of an implementation policy, research into BYOD, getting the hardware/Wi-Fi capability to handle the extra devices, student/staff user
agreements + more.

Really interesting sharing of Lino as an online tool to do brainstorming. VPP and the use of Apple configurator and how easier it will be to organise iPads, synch apps and collect files and information from iPads seems much more easier.
Lots of discussion about the pros and cons of BYOD and how this has worked in school.

Leading Curriculum Change through Peer Coaching
Leading Curriculum Change through Peer Coaching - Cathy
Brennan (Leader, Curriculum Professional Learning and Leaders, Glenfield
Education Office) and Ena Lakisoe-Mapuna
Theme: LeadIT
Skill Level: Intermediate
Target Audience: K– 12 Teachers & Executive, School
Leaders
Aim: In response to the Australian Curriculum in NSW syllabuses, this session will involve participants in exploring the potential of peer coaching strategies for leading curriculum change. Peer coaching strategies are particularly successful in leading pedagogical change, specifically enabling
teachers to authentically integrate ICT across the curriculum.
I presented at this workshop and found the crowd very good. Lots of feedback and people wanting to join our iPad wiki. Networking session went really well and people enjoyed the examples of what is going on in our school with how teachers are building their own authentic learning ICT rich examples independently.
I used Dale and his Collaborative communities example with California, Ranya and her Augmented reality learning station with Rainforests, Cassie and her focus on Kindy Phonics and Number assessment.

ICT for reflection, collaboration and assessment
ICT for reflection, collaboration and assessment - Ashleigh
Basso (ICT Peer Mentor, Campbelltown Performing Arts High School), Laura
Chrupalo, (Campbelltown Performing Arts High School) and Tim Wilson (Head
Teacher PDHPE, Campbelltown Performing Arts High School)Theme: CreateIT
Target Audience: K– 12 Teachers & Executive, School
Leaders
Aim: This workshop aims to provide participants with a range of ICT strategies that can be used to engage students in effective assessment
for learning processes in order to improve student learning outcomes. This includes the use of video for assessment across subjects, e-portfolios and
collaborative assessment practices in both theory and practical lessons. It includes an emphasis on both DER software and web-based tools. The showcase will outline how technology can be used to increase student reflection on their learning, improve collaborative assessment practices and track progress of learning outcomes. This work has helped shape Campbelltown Performing Arts High School’s work as a Global Microsoft Pathfinder School for
2013.
Assessment and rubric building with the students. Building what the expectation is and how the learning should look like. Setting up our kids for success and allowing kids to see clearly why and how they are being assessed. Giving genuine feedback and constructive support throughout the whole process to what they need to improve a process/product so that they can achieve high standards.
They used OneNote as a portfolio.
Unpacking the criteria in collaboration so that they understand what it is it all about and how do we get there successfully.
Assessment using self and peer assessment. Using the video to document how and why a student got a specific grade for an assessment. It made it clear why and how.

Fields High School)
Theme: CreateIT
Target Audience: K-12 Teachers & Executive
Aim: QR codes are being increasingly used as a communication tool in the environment around us. This session will look at how QR codes are
used in the world to connect us to information, followed by how this communication tool can be used in the classroom and in school administration
through the school newsletter. Participants will be able to generate a series of QR codes to create their own scavenger hunt using geo-location, URL links and information codes. Participants will also be able to scan codes using tablet and handheld devices.
Requirements: All types of devices with a camera and internet access. Participants need to ensure that they have a QR reader app on their smart device or access to QuickMark barcode reader (installed on all DER and rollout devices) before attending the session. Participants are encouraged to bring both a smart device and a laptop so you can save the QR codes you create.
Lessons which incorporate the QR code scavenger hunt. She would hide the QR codes to find. Each clue has a letter which they then have to unscramble the word. There is an literacy element. Clues are cryptic to make kids think about it utlising blooms taxonomy.
Demonstration of how the QR codes are scanned on the laptop on Quick mark which we could use for support unit or infant classes to get to websites easily. Even teachers could use this to access websites.
QR code newsletters to school website.
Set up QR codes for waiting areas. Link it to newspaper articles etc. Have them around the school for parents and visitors to access.
Ask Ed to download QuickMark bar code reader.

Website to make QR codes making
Avoid yellow and light colours as there is not enough contrast.
Could use it for QR codes on kids if they are lost or even with athletics maybe to take down details.

Empowering Primary students with iPads
Empowering primary students with iPads – David West
(Harrington Street Public School)
Theme: CreateIT
Target Audience: K-6 Teachers & Executive
Aim: This session will show teachers ways that they can use an iPad to reinforce their learning intentions across all KLA’s. By empowering
students with the skills and knowledge of how to use the iPad, the presenter has given the students the opportunity to create their own news program about our class. The news program is designed to tell others all about what the students have been learning about in class and what has been happening in the school. These lessons have incorporated elements of writing, editing, verbal expression, creativity, singing, acting, problem solving and much more. The session will seek to show how to create fun and engaging lessons with technology, while at the same time reinforcing the learning intentions you have in your classroom.
Making news out of everyday events. Kids building ways to journalise and building a way to communicate what they had learned to the rest of the class. Students used different apps to create their segment depending on what they wanted to do. Give the kids time to create what they want and how the want to do it. Groups used what they were reading and then had to choose an app to respond to what it was they were reading.
